Lenny Springs, also known as Leonard F. Springs, II, is a prominent figure known for his achievements in the banking industry and his extensive involvement in community and educational initiatives.

 

He was born in 1947 in Edgefield, South Carolina and graduated from Voorhees University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1968. He is the first Voorhees alumnus to be nominated to the National Black Hall of Fame. 

 

Career Highlights:

  • Banking: Springs has over 30 years of experience in the banking sector, holding significant positions at companies such as Southern Bank, First Union Corporation, and Wachovia. He served as Director of Supplier Diversity at Wachovia.

​

  • Government Service: He was appointed to the U.S. Department of the Treasury Bank Secrecy Advisory Group during the Clinton Administration. He also served as a Senior Advisor in the Obama Administration, focusing on Minority Serving Schools within the Department of Education.

​​

  • Consulting: He is the President and CEO of The      Group, Inc., a management consulting firm specializing in diversity strategies and initiatives.

​

  • Community and Educational Leadership: Springs is actively involved in numerous organizations, including serving as Vice Chairman of the South Carolina Human Affairs Commission and Chairman of the NAACP's Special Contribution Fund Board of Trustees. He is also the founding president of the Charlotte Chapter of 100 Black Men of America, Inc., and has served on the boards of multiple Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs)

  • NAACP's Legal Award for South Carolina (1980)

  • Honored by the Greenville Branch of the NAACP (1984)

  • Named one of the Outstanding Young Men of America (1973, 1979)

  • Recognized as one of America's top corporate officers in Dollars and Sense Magazine

  • Recipient of a Doctor of Humane Letters, Honoris Causa from Voorhees College

  • Inducted into the Voorhees

  • University Hall of Fame

  • University Hall of Fame

Military Service: Springs served as a sergeant in the United States Army and received two Bronze Stars and an Air Medal for his heroic actions.
